Frequently Asked Questions
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It's calculated as a percentage of the taxable value. For example, if the base amount is Rs 10,000 and GST rate is 18%, the GST amount is Rs 1,800.
CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) are levied on intra-state supplies, each being half of the total GST rate. IGST (Integrated GST) is levied on inter-state supplies and equals the full GST rate.
GST rates in India are 0%, 0.25%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. Essential items have 0% GST, while luxury items attract 28% GST. Most services fall under 18% GST.
To extract GST from a total amount, use this formula: Base Amount = Total Amount × 100 ÷ (100 + GST Rate). For example, if total is Rs 11,800 at 18% GST, base = 11800 × 100 ÷ 118 = Rs 10,000.
